Benefits of Drinking Water

Did you know that our bodies are made up of about 60% water? Or that our bodies can supposedly last weeks without food and only a few days without water?

Drinking enough water or staying hydrated is a health rule that we are always told to remember. This is due to the many benefits of drinking water for your body both physically and mentally.

 

1.      It may reduce headaches and migraines

Our bodies loose water daily due to activities such as sweating and urinating. It is therefore important that we drink water to keep the balance within our body, otherwise dehydration will offer.

 

2.      It may improve memory and mood

Research has shown that even mild dehydration can impair memory and mood.

 

3.      It may improve exercise performance

Research has shown that dehydration can affect both the physical and physiological factors involved sports performance.

 

4.      It may help reduce stress and anxiety

Studies have shown that dehydration leads to higher cortisol levels (the stress hormone) making it harder to deal with everyday issues.

 

5.      May help prevent constipation

Water helps to keep things moving in the digestive system.

 

These are just a handful of the benefits of drinking water daily. The recommended daily intake is 6-8 glasses. Be mindful of how much exercise you are doing and also the amount of added sugars to drinks such as certain teas and coffees.
