Health Benefits of Tumeric

Turmeric is known as ‘super food’ due to the benefits it appears to provide for your body and brain. Studies are continuing to be performed testing its use for a range of conditions and so far, results are looking encouraging.

Benefits include:

-          Natural anti-inflammatory

The curcumin in turmeric has proven strong anti-inflammatory properties that block the action of inflammatory molecules in the body. Studies so far are showing positive effects on people suffering from conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease.

 

-          Powerful antioxidant

Scientist are hoping that in the future turmeric can play a part in precenting and managing conditions such as heart disease.

 

-          May help with skin conditions

According to some studies, turmeric has been showing encouraging results in helping reduce symptoms of skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

 

-          Brain food

There is growing evidence that curcumin may help protect again Alzheimer’s Disease. It works to reduce inflammation as well as the build up of protein plaques in the brain. Other studies have shown results of turmeric helping as an anti-depressant, by boosting levels of brain-derived neurotropic factor

 

While most of the current research are showing encouraging results, more and more studies still need to be carried out to help build on our knowledge of what turmeric and do for our bodies and minds.
