Groin Pain

Groin pain is located in the area of the body where the inner aspect of the upper thigh and lower abdomen meet. This type of pain can be caused by muscles, joints, tendons, bursae or even nerves. An imbalance or incoordination of these soft tissues can lead to a groin injury.

Groin pain is a common problem especially in athletes and can affect people of all ages and levels of competition. When experienced by athletes, it is often found in sports that involve sprinting, changing direction and kicking, such as in football, soccer and tennis.

Common causes of groin pain include:

-          Muscle strains such as the Adductor or Iliopsoas muscles

-          Labral tear

-          Nerve entrapment

-          Bursitis

-          Hernia

-          Osteitis Pubis

-          Athletic Pubalgia

-          Issues with the lumbar spine, sacroiliac joint and/or the hip joint

-          Fracture

-          Referred pain from kidneys

-          Referred pain from a UTI

As mentioned above, groin pain can be caused by injuries such as a fracture or referred from issues with your kidneys or a UTI, so it is therefore important to seek professional opinion when experienced.
